Middle School
Our middle school curriculum includes four core classes—math, science, social studies, and language arts—offered in differentiated levels to meet the needs of every student. In addition, students explore a variety of enriching electives that allow them to discover new interests and talents.
5th Grade Curriculum
In 5th grade, students experience a supportive and structured learning environment through a cohort model, traveling with the same group of peers throughout the day. Their first class doubles as their homeroom, fostering strong relationships and a sense of community. Alongside core academic subjects, 5th graders participate in a dynamic rotation of five specials—Art, Performing Arts, P.E./Health, Spanish, and Technology—each offered once per week. This well-rounded approach helps students explore new interests while building foundational skills to prepare them for middle school success.
6th–8th Grade Curriculum
In grades 6–8, students transition to a more independent learning model with four core classes—English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies—offered in heterogeneous groupings. Beginning in 6th grade, students can customize their schedules by selecting from a variety of engaging electives, including music options like Band and Chorus. As students progress into 7th and 8th grade, they gain access to advanced academic opportunities such as Honors ELA and Math courses. In 8th grade, students may also earn high school credit by enrolling in Math I (Algebra I), Spanish I, or Computer Science if they met course prerequisites. This personalized approach ensures that every student is challenged and supported as they prepare for high school and beyond.
Student instruction is based on the NC Standard Course of Study.
All students in grades 5-8 participate in the NC EOG assessments in Reading, Math and Science as applicable.
At the MIddle School, students participate in 4 core class blocks per day and 1 elective block. Additionally, all students participate in a FLEX period. During this FLEXible period students have an opportunity to engage in a myriad of activities throughout the week. Activities include remediation, enrichment, specialized instruction, social emotional learning activities and/or study hall.
